Ms. Guerra
Hello! Welcome to 4th Grade!
I am Ms. Guerra, this is my fifth year at NCS, and my fourth year as a Fourth Grade Teacher. I am a Buffalo State University Alumni, completing both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees there, I also have an associate’s degree in Human Services with a focus on Child Care and Development.
Our crew will be encouraged to use critical thinking skills, and share their ideas and experiences with one another. The classroom is a safe space to grow, engage and learn together in all areas. We will be embarking on three adventures this year with our EL Modules; Module 1- Animal Defense Mechanisms -(we will become experts on a specific animal by describing their animals physical characteristics, habitat, predators, and defense mechanisms, as well as writing a narrative piece that incorporates their research on their animal), Module 2- The American Revolution– students will discuss their opinion of the American Revolution and gather research to support their reasoning for their opinion, and participate in collaborative discussions, and Module 3- Ratifying the 19th Amendment– students will learn about the experiences of women suffragists who were fighting for equal voting rights, while learning that children can make a difference in the world around them, they will then brainstorm ideas to make a change and take action.
In math we will begin with module 1– expanding our knowledge of place value and rounding, this will be a basis for adding and subtracting numbers with 2 or more digits, module 2– we will look at metric conversions and this stands as an introduction to multiplication of large numbers by 10, 100, and 1,000, module 3– we look at multiplying large numbers single and 2 digit numbers as well as division of large numbers using long division, module 4– we take a look at angles, lines, and the use of a protractor, module 5– we begin working with the equivalence of different fractions, adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions in the form of mixed numbers, improper fractions, and proper fractions, module 6– we are learning about decimals and the relationship between decimals, money, and fractions, module 7– we begin to look at conversions with imperial units.
When I am not teaching, I love spending time with my family, friends, my dogs (Roxx and Remi), and my cat (Oscar). I love to craft and learn DIY projects around my home.
I am excited to work with you and your child this year.
